Hey, I’ve been hearing a lot about building management systems, running in the cloud lately. So for those of us who’ve been in business a while, I wanted to check in with folks. What would be the advantage of running the BMS system applications in the cloud? So if I think back, there are a number of decades ago when the BMS systems used to be standalone systems running on a high powered computer somewhere in a chief engineer’s office. And from there, we went on to moving BMS applications onto redundant hardware running in a data center with hardware and software redundancy built in for fail-overs and things of that nature.
And the next phase seems to be the talk of the town these days is BMS in the cloud. So I have my thoughts on it. The benefits of running the BMS in the cloud could be any number of things from resiliency to data analytics, to business intelligence analysis on the data being collected, and the interconnection of BMS systems to various other building systems, such as security systems, lighting systems, video recording systems, and fire alarm systems and things of that nature.
